[Qgis-user] wms requests to https service

Has anyone had any success using a wms service that uses https rather
than http?

I'm having trouble connecting to such a service.  I know the service is
fine as I can get a getcapabilities doc from a web browser, and I can
use the service fine in udig.  When I try to connect qgis appears to
make continuous rapid connection requests and goes to 100% cpu usage (at
least for one cpu core) even after I cancel the service connection
attempt.  Qgis remains responsive for other usage though.  At no point
does qgis ask for the username and password that is required for the
https connection.
